Why doesn't Geralt Henry Cavill carry two swords on Netflix, The Witcher? The series follows a trio of characters - Geralt (Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allen) - whose fate is intertwined. When they are united, they must be interdependent, use their magic to their advantage, including killing magical creatures. Geralt is especially skilled in this matter and, in popular imagination, is often seen with two swords that he uses against different creatures. But the Netflix series turned out to only give him one.
The Witcher will be adapted from the book series of the same name from writer Andrezj Sapkowski (there may be a nod to the Witcher video game franchise from CD Projekt Red, too). In those books, Geralt is a monster hunter who is alone with serious weapons. Exactly which wild animal he will meet remains a mystery, but knowing what weapons he has can provide clues about his journey on the show.
There are too many differences between Netflix's Geralt, Sapkowski's Geralt, and Geralt video games, but the absence of the second sword Geralt in the photos of the new Witcher is probably the most prominent at the moment. One of the first promotional photos for Netflix, The Witcher, confirmed that Netflix had been trapped to only adapt Sapkowski's books because Geralt only carried one sword, in the same way he was in books. Unlike the video game, which shows Geralt carrying two swords, the books record Geralt's second sword in a package on his horse, Roach.
The photos have not confirmed the existence of Roach but the good possibility of the horse is also part of the series. Thus, it is likely that the second sword Geralt will be revealed in the package that Roach brought.
So, the reason for one sword Geralt in the Netflix series was revealed, but that reason might not be entirely clear to newcomers to the series or viewers watching The Witcher because they only play video games. Therefore, showing Roach and packages with a second sword will quickly satisfy all questions. If Roach isn't on the show, it can be in Ciri's (Allan), environment and protégé Geralt, who has the second sword Geralt.
In those books, another sorcerer who made the first feature of the sword and gave it to him. Netflix might, choose to change things and reveal that, after Ciri was under Geralt's protection, he gave one of his swords, explaining why he saw with only one sword for the rest of the series.
With all this in mind, it's best to remember that just because Geralt only carries one sword in these initial photos, that doesn't mean that the second sword isn't in The Witcher. Netflix attaches close to Sapkowski's books as source material, which means the second sword will soon be realized.
