The BMW X6 2020 has been launched, and it's clearly a more practical version but, more driven by the X5 design. But the latest X6 works a little harder to distinguish itself from its X5 brother. It features tweaked front fascia and a special sporty rear.

To start is the nose, the distinction is subtle but needs attention. The kidney grille is slightly lower, wider, and narrower at the top, just like the design seen on X2. Meanwhile, the kidney lights up! That is, if you choose a burning kidney. The lower grid is also bigger. The overall effect is more sullen and aggressive than X5.

The back is still an X6 signature, and seems lower and more sporty than before. Most of it is a pair of taillights that are very wide and very thin. They won't look strange in the BMW Series 8 variant. Moving the plate down on the rear fascia also helps highlight the width of the X6.

On the roof, it has a unique split spoiler and a very prominent full spoiler on the edge of the hold. The rear bumper does look quite thick, and everything below the cover line is busy.

While the style deviates further from X5, powertrains are still shared between the two models. The bottom trim is the rear drive sDrive40i and the all-wheel-drive xDrive40i. Both have a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 335 horsepower and 330 pounds-foot torque, up from 302 horsepower and 295 pounds-foot on the previous model.

However, mid-range, xDrive50i supported by V8, which continues on X5, has been stopped. Instead is the X6 M50i. It gets a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 along with the X5 M50i and 8 Series and makes 523 horsepower and 553 pounds-foot of torque.

All X6 models will get eight-speed automatic transmission and are electronically limited to 130 mph with all seasons or 155 mph with summer. Drivers of all xDrive40i and M50i wheels have systems that operate in rear drive mode until the slip is detected. Crossover X6 also features a double-wishbone front suspension and multilink rear.

Modifiable attenuation is standard on the X6 with a Dynamic Handling Package that adds roll stabilization and rear wheel steering. Along with modifiable fatigue, self-leveling air suspension is another option. The M50i gets a standard electronically controlled rear differential that carries several torque vectors. Therefore, this is available on the 40i lower trim model.

In terms of technology, all X6 models get a departure lane warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Crossover can also be selected with adaptive cruise control with the stop and go function and lane-keep assists.

BMW X6 2020 Dashboard

As for the interior, it can be equipped with a 12.3-inch dual screen for instruments and infotainment, both of which are well integrated in the dashboard. The interior is also clear from the X5, so it must be fun, even if it doesn't push the style limit.

While cars will go on sale this year, prices start at $ 65,295 for the X6 sDrive40i base. That's only $ 750 more than the current base X6 price of $ 64,545. Going for the all-wheel-drive X6 xDrive40i crashing costs up to $ 67,595, and the top-dog M50i starts at $ 86,645.
